the PBS miniseries (originally on the BBC) based on the book by elizabeth gaskell
as it turns out, the show was not solely based on cranford, but on several short stories by gaskell as well.
i heart dame judi

major gordon, the scot who proposed to jessie twice, and was refused both times because of jessie's family obligations...
major gordon sings the bonnie banks o' loch lomond (the celtic folk song) with jessie while she plays piano.

watch cranford, it's worth it.
i believe it was nominated for a golden globe, though i could be mistaken.
